Past Events by Year: The last event for 2015 is a chance for members to tour some of the buildings within Dunedin's historic precinct. Join us on a walking tour starting at the north end of Vogel Street. We will be visiting several buildings on the way to the Vogel Street Kitchen where we will complete the evening with drinks and nibbles along with time for networking with fellow members. Fellow members Marilyn Innes and Chris Featonby have agreed to educate members on various topics of interest to landlords. They are hugely experienced and very knowledgeable and are happy to share much of what they have learnt along the way. Carpet Court has recently become one of the OPIA business partners and they would like to invite members of the OPIA to join the team on Tuesday 15th September at 6.30pm for a 7.00pm start to show you their products and explain how they can work for you. A panel of commercial investors will discuss their highs and lows in the arena of commercial investing. The speakers on this panel have experience that ranges from newcomers to very experienced investors. Their combined investing experience includes the areas of Dunedin and Central Otago. Guest Speaker: Philippa Howden-Chapman North End Group Annual General Meeting followed by Terry le Grove, President of New Zealand Property Investors Federation giving a presentation titled “Your National Voice†featuring the work the NZPIF does in the media, with Government Ministers and Officials, and submissions etc on the issues that have been prevalent this year. The importance of being heard in the Political and Rental industry arenas is paramount. Inland Revenue are running a session for landlords to provide an overview of tax responsibilities for rental property owners. You will be introduced to IRD's business tools and resources, myIR online services and cover topics such as the importance of record keeping, deductible and non-deductible expenses, repairs and maintenance, items that are depreciable and what happens when you sell or dispose of your property and chattels. Xero Accredited trainer and property investor, Penny Halvorsen will speak about and show the benefits of using Xero as a landlord. Hosted by Martin Dippie (Managing Director of Dunedin Mitre 10 Mega) and Ron Cribb (National Trade Key Account Manager for Mitre 10) who will share their personal experiences in property investment. There will be special deals and prize draws as well as the unveiling of a new offer for OPIA members. Thanks to a game well-played, Dunedin took out the top spot to win its place as New Zealand’s first Gigatown and is now well on the way to becoming the most connected town in the Southern hemisphere. |
